Greetings from Ask The UMC, the United Methodist Information Service!

Michael,

Thank you for writing. Your message reached our offices at United Methodist Communications in
Nashville, Tennessee.

To be clear, our role in what you have shared with us is to refer you to the persons who are properly
involved in this matter. United Methodist Communications has no role in such matters beyond such
referral.

The person you need to contact for advice about how to proceed in this case is the district
superintendent for the Central District of the Iowa Conference, The Rev Dr Heechon Jeon
(heecheon.jeon@iaumc.org or call 515‐974‐8918 to set up an appointment to discuss this matter with
him).

There may not be a basis for an ecclesial proceeding against the music director, since that person is not appointed clergy and may or may not be a member of that local church. Whether there is against the pastor, and whether that is the better way to proceed toward a remedy to this situation, is part of what you would want to explore with the district superintendent.

I hope this is helpful.

Peace in Christ,

Rev. Taylor W. Burton‐Edwards
